My goal is 95-100 lbs …now I know that sounds unhealthy, but keep in my I am 4'11. :)

Wednesday Workout Recap

It’s getting real.  It’s definitely getting real.

Monday – Trainer hill workout followed by a 3 mile run.

Tuesday – Long swim sets.  Thankfully, the 50m pool is open for two weeks, which makes long swim sets seem so much easier.  It’s going to be tough when I’m back to the 25m pool.

Wednesday – 4 hour trainer ride.  Yes.  4 hours.  Since I wouldn’t be able to do a long ride over the weekend due to travel and not having my bike, I had to get it in mid-week.  This was rough, especially since I was doing it after work, so it got late.  I also discovered that while I can sleep well after a 2 hour evening workout, 4 hours is too much and I didn’t get enough sleep Wednesday night.

Thursday – Missed my swim workout.  I was completely burnt out from the lack of sleep and since I had to be up early for a flight the next morning, I opted for bed rather than the swim practice that wouldn’t get me home til after 9.

Friday – 6 mile treadmill run.  I had help.


Taco kept walking across the incline buttons. This is not a hill workout, Baby Taco!

Saturday – Rest

Sunday – 12 mile run through my hometown.  It’s not really big enough for a 12 mile run, but they’ve got an awesome new trail that was great to run through, and it passes by the hospital, which is good for water, bathroom breaks, and emergencies, I suppose.

HCG hormone is supposed to suppress hunger and trigger your body’s use of fat for fuel.

My favorite triathlon gear

As my race day is fast approaching, I’ve been working on my packing list, and while I will be sharing the ridiculousness of that in a future post, I thought I would share my current favorite gear and products that will be getting me through this race.

Coeur ShortsLike last year, this year I’m racing in a Coeur Sports kit.  I absolutely love my Coeur kits.  I wrote about them previously, but the tri shorts are phenomenal.  No seams to rub in awkward places and no super thick padding to make you feel like you’re running in a diaper.  For me, the fit of the kit is perfect – no awkward shifting and my shirt doesn’t ride up leaving me with the dreaded lower back sunburn tramp stamp.

ENELL_sportI am never getting away with a built in bra, so I wear an ENELL bra underneath.  I have been asked before if I have any issues with the ENELL not drying during a tri, and I haven’t noticed any issues, but during the last race I did, I was shoving ice into my bra, and the race before was during a rainstorm, so who knows.  But I also don’t feel like any parts of my kit truly dry during a race.  My ENELL is great because it keeps everything in place, and I love the shape.  (And there’s a new color coming out next month too!) My Coeur kit is racer back style, so while my ENELL shows, it doesn’t look terribly out of place.  I just always have to make sure that I’m coordinating my colors!

I can’t say I have a favorite pair of socks, but I’m a Hoka One One shoe fan through and through.  With Lock Laces for easy wearing.

TailwindNutrition and hydration wise, I started using Tailwind this season and am a huge fan.  I normally drink lemon lime, but am experimenting with some of the caffeinated flavors.  I discovered that on long rides, I need something solid as well, so my bento box holds a few whole wheat lemon bar cookies and some gummy candies.  Tailwind is my main fuel, the rest just sort of keeps me motivated.  Get to mile 20 and you can have some candy, get to mile 25 and you can have a cookie, etc.  I’m easily entertained.  I also use Base Electrolyte Salt.  I used to use salt capsules, but I like not having to swallow a pill while racing, and I like that taking a lick of salt from my thumb cuts the sweetness of the other things I’ve consumed during the ride/run.  Some people claim it’s overpriced and that salt from the grocery store works just as well.  All I know is that this works for me, and at the rate I use it, I can afford to splurge a little bit.

There’s plenty of other stuff I use on race day, but these are the big key elements and brands I recommend to friends.  Obviously, a bike is also hugely important, and while I love my Felts, the key on bikes is to get something in your price range that fits you.  Bike fit is so important and so painfully ignored by many.

I’m sure in a few months, I will have all sorts of new products to share with you, but this is what will get me through Augusta!

Just keep swimming…

The next two weeks of my training schedule are a bit screwy, specifically with regards to swimming.  As we’re nearing the end of the summer (at least in terms of school starting back up and such), the county indoor pools, where I normally swim, are closed for maintenance, so three of the outdoor pools have opened up for early morning lap hours.

One of the outdoor pools is actually closer to my house and is a 50 meter pool, so I prefer it, but normally, they don’t have early lap hours, so early morning swims are out.

So this week, I was excited!  It was a change in my routine, and the outdoor pool doesn’t really have a locker room where I can get ready for work, so it meant going home after swim instead of straight to work, but that’s okay!

I misjudged the traffic and got to the pool about 10 minutes before the 6am opening.  Not a big deal.  But then there’s no movement inside.  6:00 hits.  Nothing.  I think maybe they’re waiting til 6:15, when the attached indoor pool opens.  Nope.  So I go venturing over to the indoor pool building.  Nothing there, just a sign saying they’re closed with an arrow pointing to the outdoor pool entrance.  So I go back over. There’s another guy waiting there too.

Then I notice something.  There are PEOPLE IN THE POOL!  How did they get in?  I am smart, I can figure this out.

Turns out that the pool is open, but rather than open any of the entrances, one of the side gates is open and you can just walk in.  Awesome.  So I get my workout started about 30 minutes late.  At least there’s a lane available to share.

Then my lane partner leaves and this guy joins me and he hits me no less than 11 times during my workout.  Because he had to do this weird backstroke the whole time.  Jerk.

Wednesday Workout Recap

Race day is coming.  Oh, it’s coming.  Thankfully, this was a step back week, so it wasn’t toooooo terrible.

Monday – Rest Day

Tuesday – Long interval swim sets.  Yay?  Actually, I really like these.  Mentally, it’s nice to break my swim into three or four long intervals rather than a bunch of shorter repeats.

Wednesday – Trainer ride plus a 3 mile run.  And I got a new baby niece today too!

Thursday – Team Fight Swim.  Oh, my legs.

Friday – Rest Day NUMBER TWO for the week. Glory of glories.  Got a massage that hurt way worse than the previous day’s swim.

Saturday – 40 mile ride on some lovely local hills.  This felt pretty fantastic.

Sunday – Unplanned rest day. My knee was giving me some trouble so I dropped the planned 6 miler for rest and stretching.  Feels much better already so who knows.  Can you sleep on your knee wrong?

Fellow Friendly Cyclists

This weekend was a step back weekend for me.  I don’t know when a 40 mile ride became an easy ride, but it was nice to only have 40 miles facing me.

For those of you who know the local area, I went out and did the Columbia tri course, looping the top of the lollipop three times to get my miles in (and plenty of hill work too).

It’s a pretty popular route to bike, and I saw plenty of people out riding.  One thing that I love about cycling is how friendly everyone is.  As I was getting my bike out of the car, there were other ladies getting ready for a ride, so we chatted for a bit and wished each other luck.  They passed me a bit later and wished me luck on my ride.

All along the route, I came upon friendly cyclists.  Lots of hellos and good mornings as we passed, often going in opposite directions.  Chatting at stop signs.  Conversations when stopped for water at a local gas station.  Just lots of nice people out there.

Of course, it’s not like it’s this 1950’s television show of friendliness.  Plenty of people pass without a word or a wave. And that’s fine too, no problems there (though everyone appreciates when cyclists call out when they pass from the rear).  But in general, it’s a very friendly community.

Obviously, not every cyclist is friendly.  But there is a somewhat popular blogger out there who talks about how every single cyclist she passes makes a negative comment or says something horrible to her.  Given my experience, I just don’t see that happening.  People are relatively friendly, and those who aren’t probably just ignore the other cyclists.  No one has time to be excessively rude.

I know some people get nervous about riding with others or riding outside because they’re worried about what other people will think.  That definitely isn’t something to worry about.  For the most part, cyclists are just happy to see other cyclists out riding.  You’ll see the hardcore riders out training intensely, you’ll see people out for a nice easy ride, and you’ll see everyone in between.

Wednesday Workout Recap

You know what?  It’s still stupidly hot.  I do not love this.

Monday – Easy 45 minute trainer ride to keep the legs loose.

Tuesday – Swim workout.  This one was tough because I was just feeling sluggish, but once I got through the drills and to the main set, I was committed to finishing.  At this point, a lot of training is mental.

Wednesday – Structured trainer workout followed by a 3 mile run.  These trainer workouts always kick my ass, but I’m definitely improving.

Thursday – Team Fight swim.  Felt like I dragged through this, but it was awesome to be in the pool with so many great people.

Friday – Glorious rest day.

Saturday – 60 mile ride followed by a 2 mile run.  I did this one on a 2+ mile loop due to the heat.  I didn’t want to be too far from water at any point.  Around mile 40, I got in my car and just sat in the AC for a few minute because I was so freaking hot.  But I forced myself through the 60 miles.  The 2 mile run was mostly a walk though, but given that the heat index was in the 110+ range by that point, I’ll take it.

Sunday – 12 mile treadmill run.  I just could not face the heat again.

Gladwell Thresholds and the Galloway Method

Last week, I started listening to Malcolm Gladwell’s podcast, Revisionist History.  I nearly skipped episode 3, The Big Man Can’t Shoot because it was about pro-basketball players, and since I’m not into pro-basketball, I figured it wouldn’t interest me.  Oh, how wrong I was.

In a nutshell, the episode talked about a player named Rick Barry, who shot his free throws underhanded (or granny style) and had incredible success with this method.  He taught it to Wilt Chamberlain, a notoriously terrible free throw shooter, and his percentage shot way up for that season.  But the next season, he was back to overhand throws because he felt stupid shooting underhanded.  It didn’t matter to him that he was more successful, he preferred to follow the traditional style of shooting, even if it meant making fewer shots.

Gladwell links this to his threshold theory.  If you have a low threshold, you care less about what others do and do what works best.  If you have a high threshold, you are more likely to follow the crowd.  We’d all like to say we have a low threshold, but we can’t all be like Rick Barry.  He was mercilessly taunted for his free throw style, but he didn’t care, because it was the most effective way to shoot.  Wilt Chamberlain gave it a shot, but his threshold was higher.  He was more influenced by what was going on around him.

As I was listening to the podcast, I immediately started thinking about running, specifically the Galloway run/walk method.  The theory behind the Galloway method is simple – you take walk breaks throughout your run, and that little bit of energy conservation allows you to ultimately finish faster because you’re preventing fatigue.

I’m a Galloway runner.  I currently follow a 1 minute run/1 minute walk pattern, though if I find myself especially fatigued during a triathlon, I sometimes switch to a 30 second pattern.  And you know what?  Using a 1/1 pattern, I’m getting faster!  I’ve found something that works.

And yet I still sometimes feel the need to make excuses for the fact that I walk.  It helps that the Galloway method is becoming more popular, but there is still a lot of shame in a lot of people who run/walk, as if it’s any less of a successful method of getting from the start to the finish.

So often, I hear people say “I just want to be able to run the whole race.”  As if there’s shame in a walk break.  But the thing is, you may get shamed by other runners.  “Don’t walk, keep running!”  “Walkers shouldn’t start this far up in the corrals!” (Admittedly, if you are doing a run/walk, you had better stay out of the way of everyone else.)

I guess it depends on your goal.  If I can run an entire race at one pace, but finish faster doing a run/walk, I’m definitely using the run/walk.  I try to not worry about what other people think.  But it’s easier said than done.

I’ve had friends say “Oh, I’ll just stay back and run your intervals with you,” and then be unable to keep up with my intervals.  This is no stroll.  This is a run followed by a fast walk.  But it’s also not a straight run.  And I know plenty of people who refuse to try the Galloway method, even though they have seen plenty of people get faster by inserting walk breaks.  To them, it’s important to not be seen walking.

At the end of the day, we’re all hobbyists, so we should run our races in whatever method makes us happiest.  But maybe we should take a look at where our threshold lies and see if we can’t push against it a bit.  Maybe following the crowd isn’t the best way to go.

Race Day Draws Closer

This weekend, I got the next month of my training plan, which takes me up to taper.

This is kind of terrifying, because after reading it, I feel like there’s not that much time left and I’m never going to be ready.

Except that I will be.  I’ve been training for months.  I’m putting in the time.  I’m following my training plan.  At this point, I just need to continue to stick to my workouts, put in the time, but also make sure that I’m getting enough rest and eating well.  I got on the scale this morning and it was… not pretty.  Every pound I gain is an extra pound I have to haul up the hills, so that’s not a great thing.

Tonight, I will sit down and transfer my training schedule into my planner, because I’m old school and still keep a paper planner.  It’s the one place where I can track everything, so I can figure out how to balance training with work with pool closings with trips to visit family.

Somehow, writing it all down makes it seem less stressful.

Make a plan.  Follow the plan.  Succeed.  That’s what I keep telling myself.

Oh the joys of pre-race brain!  And my race is still weeks away!

When it comes to bulking one of the biggest problems that people experience is that they gain weight alright, but a lot of the weight gained is just excess bodyfat right around the belly.

How do you bulk up while keeping your waist line small?

What’s the key to bulking without getting fat in the process?

Well it mostly comes down to your diet. A lot of people use the fact that they are “bulking” as an excuse to eat what ever they want, including a lot of high calorie junk foods like pizza, burgers, fries, sweets, etc. Now unless you are born with a racing fast metabolism, you’re just going to get fat eating foods like this. Very few people can stay lean while eating junk food.

Instead you need to treat your bulking diet very similar to how you would treat a fat loss cutting diet. Focus your eating around clean wholesome bodybuilding foods such as; lean meats, chicken, fish, eggs, potatoes, rice, oatmeal, fruits, and veggies.

The only difference between a fat loss cutting diet, and a mass building bulking diet is that you’ll be eating more of these foods so that you are in a caloric surplus.

It’s actually quite hard to get fat when you’re eating all clean foods. But these foods will provide your body with the nutrition that it needs to fuel your workouts and build lean muscle, without gaining excess fat in the process.

In addition to your diet you need to incorporate regular cardio as part of your mass building bulk up program. Neglecting cardio while bulking is a big mistake. Regular cardio will help you to make leaner gains and it will help to improve your cardio conditioning and increase your work capacity.

I recommend that you perform at least 3 x 30 minute cardio sessions per week while bulking. Preferably do your cardio on your off days from weight training. This way you can use the cardio as a form of active recovery. The light movement and increased blood flow and circulation from the cardio will clear lactic acid and waste products from your muscles and speed up your recovery while at the same time helping to keep your bodyfat levels low and your waist line slim.

The Universe Conspires Against Me

Among some triathletes, there seems to be a superstition that as your race approaches, the universe tries to make things difficult for you.

If you’ve seen or read 11/22/63, you know what I mean.  (If you haven’t, stop what you’re doing right now and go read/watch.  Seriously.)

So even though my race is over a month away, things are starting to get a little crazy.

Work is nuts, as expected.  We have a huge project milestone coming up mid-September, so that’s intense.  Going well, but still pretty intense.

My poor house… Let’s just say that someone who owned it before me did some very shoddy construction work and now I’m having to have some major work done on the house.  It could be much worse, but the work has only just begun and I’m not sure how long it will be until it’s complete.  Fingers crossed that as the work progresses, we don’t discover things are much worse than we thought.

Of course, the added stress is that everything that was once in my office is now stacked around the living room and dining room.  It’s… not relaxing.  I’m not a neat freak in any way, but the mess is definitely distracting.  Once all the repair work is done, I’m still going to have to rip out the remaining carpet in my office and paint the entire room.  I’m probably not going to get that done until after Augusta so… that’s fun.

Then on Wednesday night, the engine coolant light in my car came on unexpectedly.  The car wasn’t overheating, so I wasn’t immediately worried, but that’s something that needs to be dealt with.  A trip to the dealership later (all covered under warranty), everything was fine, fluids were topped off, and it was likely an air bubble that caused the light to illuminate.  Ultimately a non-issue (plus I got a free car wash out of the deal), but still just one more thing I had to deal with.

So now I’m just waiting to see what happens next with the home repairs and how many days I will need to work from home to get it done.  Thank goodness for flexibility in my work schedule!

Wednesday Workout Recap

Last week was definitely a week I was dreading in my training plan, most notably the weekend.  But I made it!

Monday – Okay, so maybe the week wasn’t perfect.  Had a swim scheduled, but thanks to work, couldn’t get to the pool.  So this became a rest day.

Tuesday – Got in Monday’s swim.  Ultimately, because of the unplanned rest day, I dropped a 4 mile run from my schedule.

Wednesday – Killer trainer workout followed by a 3 mile run.

Thursday – Team Fight Swim.

Friday – Oh thank goodness, full on rest day.

Saturday – Farm to Fork Fondo.  There was supposed to be a 2 mile run after this, and I made it through about a mile of it before I just couldn’t do any more.  I was way too hot and exhausted.

Sunday – HarborFest swim followed by a 10 mile run.

Swim Report – HarborFest Swim

IMG_2796As if a hilly 66 mile ride wasn’t enough, Sunday morning I did the Wave One HarborFest Swim at National Harbor.

Yes, I paid money to jump into the Potomac.  But it wasn’t as gross as I feared.  Just kind of stinky.

The race offered a bunch of distances – 750m, 1.2 miles, 2.4 miles, and the absolutely insane 5K.  Clearly, I went for the 1.2 mile swim.  While I wasn’t looking forward to a second early morning and missing Iron Girl volunteering for a jump into the Potomac, I was looking forward to trying out the race distance.

Of course, it wasn’t going to be much of a predictor for Augusta since the conditions are completely different, but it’s never bad to cover the distance.

The event was low key and well organized.  Before the swim, the race director offered various tips for the swim, knowing that a lot of people were using this as a triathlon open water swim practice. It definitely made for a positive atmosphere.  Plus it was fun to hang out with Liz and finally meet Laura in person.

The waves went off beginning with the longest distance, so we could watch people start the swim but also be reassured that we wouldn’t be the last out (I assume that honor went to one of the amazing 5K swimmers).  When it was time for the 1.2, I jumped right in.   Water wasn’t as horrible as I feared.  When the swim started, I was definitely trapped in a pack and had issues with other swimmers a couple of times during the swim.  Just a crowded event.  No real problems, just a little annoying.

For the 1.2, we had a two loop course.  Nice because it was a good opportunity to practice sighting and turn buoys.  I knew by the first loop that I was a little slower than I wanted to be.  But I still felt comfortable, so I decided to just push a bit harder.

I managed to get passed twice by one of the 5K swimmers.  So that was fun.  I also kept touching someone’s foot that was the grossest foot I have ever touched.  ICK.

I finished the swim in just under 53 minutes.  I was hoping for more in the 40’s.  But I’ll take it.  I was coming in fatigued from the day before, plus Augusta will be wetsuit legal and with the current, so I’ve got a good shot at getting closer to the 45 that I want.

All in all, not a bad event.  Then I had to go for a 10 mile run.  That was… less fun.  And took way more than 53 minutes.

Oh, and I thought this was cool.  After the run, I was walking back through National Harbor and everyone was standing around staring at something.  When I got closer I realized what it was.


The Olympics up on the big screen.  Taking advantage of a beautiful day and getting outside and still managing to watch Team USA.  Seems like a win all around.

Hey guys, it’s Jonny with insanehomefatloss and today we are going to talk about making your waist smaller. A lot of people ask me how to make their waste smaller. Pay attention and check out this TRICK you can use, so you can get the lean body you want, well… instantly!

Video breakdown:

0:55 The truth is you were born with the hips you have, so you can’t actually make them smaller. As far as the waist, you can tighten them up but not too much, I’m sorry.

2:32 You need to workout and diet if you want to make your waist as small as possible. And I suggest doing some workouts on our insanehomefatloss channel if you want to do it fast.

3:53 Another key thing is to workout your abs when you are losing fat, so you have some muscles to show off when you cut all your fat down.

4:41 You can make your waist appear smaller. There are certain poses you can do that will help you when you take a photos or want to look good out. But make sure you don’t stop working out.

6:07 One of the things you can do is get in the mirror and practice poses that make you look the best. It might be embarrassing, but we all do it, so you’ll be fine.

7:20 And posing works… ask Arnold! That is how he made bodybuilding history!

8:20 Remember there are certain exercises you don’t want to do. I am talking about oblique muscles, because they will make you look boxy. And if you do decide to work them out for function, don’t use weights.

Ride Report – Farm to Fork Fondo


This weekend, I did the Farm to Fork Fondo in Pennsylvania.  I did the medio distance, which is the green line on the map above.  66.66 miles in total, and four delicious farm stops, plus some amazing food at the end.  I’m so glad Lauren suggested we ride (though she followed that crazy yellow line because she is nuts.  And awesome.

This ride was absolutely amazing and also incredibly, incredibly hard.  This area of Pennsylvania isn’t known for being flat, so I knew it would be a challenge.

The event was incredibly well organized.  There were plenty of cue sheets available and I though the course was really well marked (of course, of the three of us who went to the event together, two got lost, so maybe I’m the only one who thought so).   There were riders of all levels at the start, and it was fun that so many of the distances started off together.


The big thing about this ride is the food, and specifically, the local food.  We rode to different farms and had all sorts of local treats.  The first stop had the most amazing peaches.  They were delicious and perfect and clearly just off the trees.  There were also whoopie pies, ice creams, meats and cheeses, pretzels, chips, and so much more.  Plus standard race foods like Clif bars and gels.  And the people were all so incredibly friendly.

One thing I appreciated was that all riders got wristbands in the color arrows they were supposed to follow, and on the wristband was the number for support, so if you needed help or just stopped and needed to be picked up, you could easily call.

The course was definitely challenging, probably more than I realized it would be.  There were three pretty brutal hill climbs, all three of which I made it through part of, then stopped and walked the rest of the way because my heart was beating so fast.  But I refused to turn my watch off while walking up the hill, so that’s included in my final pace.  Forward motion gets timed.

There was one spot where we made a turn and had to go straight up a hill and it was such a mental challenge.  A lot of people just stopped at the bottom and stared at the hill.  It deserved respect, after all.


The last aid station was at mile 52, and the last 14 miles were definitely brutal.  It was hot and hilly and I just wanted to be done.  Those last 14 were a mental game, pure and simple, especially the last 5 or so.

My goal was to do this ride at a 14 minute mile average pace or faster.  I made it through to mile 56 (70.3 distance) at that pace, but things dropped in the last 10 miles and I finished at a 13.8 pace.  It was definitely a slog getting through those last miles, and I was so glad to be done and off my bike.

That said, the event was great and I will probably do it again next year.  Yes, it was a huge physical challenge, but it was still a lot of fun and the food was delicious.  Any ride that ends with a giant post-race meal and fabulous live music is okay in my book.

Les comparto mi experiencia usando las fajas deportivas para la reducción de cintura y correción de la postura.
Yo uso dos tipos de faja, las deportivas y la de tela. Funcionan asi:
De las deportivas o de latex hay cortas y largas. La corta es especial cuando vas a trabajar ejercicios que doblas la cintura (abdomen) y la que es más larga cuando ejercitas sin doblar la cintura (sentadillas, brazo etc.)

La faja de tela la uso por más tiempo y es tipo corsete, por ejemplo durmiendo durante toda la noche, y también cuando no hago ejercicio como cuando ando de shopping porque la puedes usar durante más tiempo.

Al principio se siente un poco incómodo pero vas aumentando el tiempo de uso y ya después hasta se te hace más cómodo usarla.

My current pop culture obsessions

It’s been a while since I’ve written about the various sources of entertainment occupying my time lately.

And by occupying my time, I mean “playing in the background as I do other things” or “being read for ten minutes before I pass out every night.”

(Of course, much of this will be replaced by the Olympics beginning this weekend.  I don’t even care what sport I’m watching.  But I will be watching.)

Like many people, I got sucked into Stranger Things on Netflix.  I managed to watch the entire season (only 8 episodes) in a single weekend while still getting in a 50 mile ride and 11 miles of running.  I’ve been struggling to explain the show.  It’s definitely in the sci-fi realm, not really what I would call horror.  I’d probably put it in the same genre as The X-Files, wherever you put that.  Supernatural mystery?  Either way, it’s excellent storytelling and I have high hopes for the second season.

I’ve been listening to The West Wing Weekly, a podcast about (obviously) The West Wing.  Josh Malina, who joined the cast mid-series, and a friend are working their way through the series, discussing one episode a week while also bringing on great guests, including actors, writers, and directors from the show.  I’ve been rewatching the show along with them, and it’s been a lot of fun to listen to their discussion.  It’s also very hard to make Netflix stop the autoplay and not go on to the next episode.

In other podcasts, I may have already recommended Still Buffering, “a sisters’ guide to teens through the ages,” but it remains highly entertaining.  Three sisters, two in their 30’s and one still in high school, discuss what it’s like to be a teen, both in the 90’s and today.  As someone who was a teen in the 90’s, this is an entertaining reminiscence through the ridiculousness of teenage life, and it’s also mind boggling to learn the teenage “rules” about things like Instagram and group texts.

Radiolab has started up an infrequent podcast called “More Perfect” about the Supreme Court and some major cases and it is fabulous.  I may be their target audience though, as a trained attorney who loved Constitutional Law class in law school.

If you liked the first season of Serial, you might want to check out the second season of Undisclosed.  The Undisclosed team’s first season was on the Adnan Syed case, but they’ve picked up a new case for their second season, and it’s really interesting investigative journalism.  Each week they do a new episode plus an Addendum, hosted by Jon Cryer (yes, Duckie) where they discuss some of the key points of each episode.  Great for the true crime fans out there.

If you’re looking for inspiration as you train, my Coeur teammate Amy Stone hosts the Mile After Mile podcast, where she interviews some impressive athletes and talks about the crazy things they’re doing.

I’ve been listening to audiobooks lately while running, but nothing that I can absolutely rave about at the moment.  I’ve been bouncing between the J.D. Robb In Death series (which I love) and the Outlander books which I have a love/hate relationship with.  (If nothing else, I get my money’s worth out of my Audible credit with those considering how long they are.)  In general, I’m a huge audiobook fan.

I have the latest Harry Potter release sitting on my counter at home but haven’t had the time to delve into it, as I manage to read for a few minutes every night before falling asleep, and I have a feeling that’s not the best way to read that book.  Someday I will have free time to just read for hours again.

So those are the pop culture things taking up my time.  What else should I be watching/reading/listening to?

Wednesday Workout Recap

IMG_1765Today’s post features a picture of the snowstorm in January because I thought it would be cooling.  I have heard multiple people say this week “I’ll take this heat over the snow.”  Nope.  If I have to choose, I’ll take snow.

Now on to the recap.

Monday – Easy 45 minute bike ride to keep things loose.

Tuesday – Structured swim workout.  So much swimming.  I’m not sure what’s going on at the pool this summer, but the youth swims seem to have been scheduled differently, so it’s not such a fight to get a lane in the morning.  I absolutely love it.

Wednesday – 4 mile run, plus strength work.  I tried to do this outside and melted, so I opted inside instead.

Thursday – Supposed to swim, but we got hit with a pretty big lightning storm, so rather than drive the 35 minutes to swim only to find it cancelled, I opted to stay home and bike for an hour instead.

Friday – Glorious, glorious rest day.

Saturday – 50 mile ride, followed by a 1 mile run.

Sunday – 10 mile run.  The heat broke in Saturday’s storms, but the humidity was horrible.  I drank so much water on this run and never felt like I was sloshing.

The weekend workouts are just going to keep getting crazier.  This 70.3 thing is intense.

Hey Penguins🐧! This is definitely out of my comfort zone lol but hey it is what it is 😂😩🙈 I enjoyed trying out this product and I’ll be keeping you penguins updates on how it’s working! And I meant to say wear it 8-12 hours but I said 15 😩🙈 my bad, also I wear the waist trainer differently. The trainer comes with instructions but I wear it the way that’s most comfortable for me.
